About Deirdre Reid

Deirdre ReidWelcome to my thinking lab. I moved to Raleigh NC from Sacramento CA this summer. It’s a decision that’s been coming for a while as my boyfriend is here and the 2800 mile distance was a bit rough on us. Now that I’m here, I’m ready to help associations, non-profits and businesses with community building and engagement (your members, volunteers and/or customers), social media  and strategic planning and thinking.

I decided to start a blog after reading so many others and realizing that I had ideas I wanted to share with my peers and didn’t want to monopolize their Comments section by doing so. I’ll be relying on my background in association and business management, as well as my personal interests, to write about whatever is inspiring me that day.

You can learn about my professional background on LinkedIn, and about my professional and personal interests by following me on Twitter. Contact me at deirdre dot reid dot nc at gmail dot com if you would like to chat more.

I look forward to getting to know you. What I love about social media is that it enhances our world of relationships. We share with each other and learn from each other. We become “twitter friends” or “blog friends,” then sometimes we meet in real life — that’s even better. Brian Solis and Maddie Grant both wrote about this aspect of social media — well worth reading.

So thanks for dropping by and learning a little more about me.

Wow, you really are the queen of social media! We might be joining you in the blogosphere – we’re thinking of using a new blog to keep the California Builder brand alive during these downtimes. Will keep you posted.

Great, I’m a willing teacher! I’m thinking about some posts on how breweries are using (or could use) social media. And I may do a separate page on just fun craft beer ramblings. By the way, I LOVE your blog — subscribed today.

Okay, I’m going to make a confession: I haven’t found a beer I truly like, except for a $10 bottle of raspberry Belgian beer! My drink taste is all over the map–white & red wine, dirty martinis, mojitos, heck, I even drank Zima…I did try a wimpy half-pint of Guiness in Ireland and found it extremely bitter.

Since you and lots of other folk are so passionate about it, it can’t be all that bad…can you recommend a beer for a non-beer drinker?

And thanks for subscribing to my blog :)

Toni, there are so many different beer flavors out there that it’s hard to know where to begin, plus our tastes change over time. I’m thinking you need to go to a brewpub, get a sampler and taste your way through it to see what styles are for you. The next time I’m in DC, I’ll help you out with that.

two weeks to the other side. what an incredible beer tour to plan. Salt Lake City, Dillion Colorado, Longmont Colorado, Denver while you’re there, Lincoln and Omaha Nebraska, New Glarus Wisconsin, Bells Michigan, Brewery Omegang…. etc.

    have fun.

Is Founders brewery on your list? I think they brew the most interesting beers these days.
Also if you pass through NY (i see Ommegang) you stop at Captain Lawrence.

I’ll be following you on this account and on my church’s Twitter account ECChurch. Maybe we can talk about social media for non-profits some time!
